But more importantly, let's talk about our day! We woke up and left the hotel at 7:45 and took three trains to Strasbourg, France. Most of us slept on the ride there, and back. We did a lot of walking. We had a tour guide that was born in Strasbourg take us around.
We toured the town. We learned the history of the town; because it is on the boarder of France and Germany, it has changed hands between the two countries 4 times in the past century. Therefore, it was a mix of French and Germany culture, structure and language.
The large and beautiful Catholic cathedral, that was often compared to and modeled after the Notre Dame of Paris, France. Which was built of pink sand stone of the area. All the stained glass was original. There was a clock that rang every 15 minutes; including the movement of the moon and earth, the date, and specific time. The clock symbolized life and death. And we even lit candles in prayer.
And the largest Protestant church of Strasbourg. This church was most famous for its great pipe organ. Unfortunately, most of the stained glass was ruined in conflict in the city.
Last, but not least, we did do lots of shopping! We had amazing gelato! We also went on a ride on a two story carousel; being the children that we still are!
Everyday we get to learn more about history and more about each other. Our bonds get stronger each day.It was definitely a trip and day to remember! We can now say we have been in France! Can't wait till tomorrow!
P.S. I love you Mom & Dad :)
